English language

Well, I did not exempt of any English course, so the first English courses we did homework almost all classes for example, write in English half a page, on a topic related to the class. It was similar to what we did in this fourth English course but we did not use the computer, then we only used words that we knew and one or another word we asked. We also sang in English and it was very entertaining. The last courses were also entertaining because we talked with each other and several activities, but the topic of blogs I find it difficult to express myself and find correct words, so it took me a while to write them.

I  have a lot of things to learn, for example the topic of pronunciation, for my part, at school  never taught me well to pronounce and at the university neither but I plan to learn on the Internet with English dictionaries online. Also I do not know all the verbs thing that is very important and with more reason I can't understand when someone speaks to me in English. I could improve this dedicating more time to English, watching videos on YouTube with subtitles, reading books in English, talking to people who know English and can help me with pronunciation, among other things.

In the future I want to do an English course but from the basics to learn in a better way because I would really love to speak this language fluently and share with people who know it too. In addition, English is very important have it incorporated because is a universal language.

Changes

I think it could change or modify the subjects of the career that are made in the first 2 years of the career Food Engineering, because they could have more content of the subjects that we will have in the future, to know if we really like it or not , the career. Also do extracurricular outings, it would be very motivating and entertaining to learn well.

In relation to the faculty I would change the infrastructure, build a big casino and that they accept JUNAEB because there is only one casino that accepts this card and it is always full, it is terrible. Also do second floor in the library because when the exam dates are close, it is full and there is no place to study.

The teaching method maybe it is good, but for me it is complicated, maybe I still do not get used to the rhythm of the university or I do not know. I find that it is accelerated, There are many contents in such a short time and I mentally collapse. I think that it could increase the time of some subjects that are more complex and intense and decrease others that do not require much time.

The academic workload per semester I think is fine, that one is delayed by failing subjects, it is not the fault of the academic load, here the only culprit is oneself and be disorganized. But it would be good if all the subjects were semester-long and not annual so as not to be delayed too.

The technology here at the faculty I think is well implemented, I do not see necessary more than what it have.

My opinions

Many of the programs that are on television have a degree of violence in their content and many of these programs are watched by young children. For my part I do not agree with violence except in programs that are for minors, I think that children copy everything they see and hear, and if they are constantly watching television they are likely to behave violently.

About buying instead of adopting pets, I think it is better to adopt a pet because it is a decision of its own and is independent of having or not money to have it. I also think that people who do not have money to buy a pet also have the right to have one, and the best option would be to adopt.

Here, in our country exist a high number of immigrants and I think that I do not completely agree because they come with a very high expectation of finding a job and that they would  be fine economically, but that is something that we, as Chilean, do not have. They even go through very bad treatment by some Chileans and this should not be happening.

About the women in the military, I think it is very good that the woman is integrated into the militia because it shows that we women can also have the same role like a man as a military, having the same tasks and difficulties that arise in this place , for example excessive exercise, extreme schedules and gun control.

Cartoons

There are many cartoons that I like, and I would be talking about them for a long time, but my favorite is The Simpsons that they broadcast on television and you can also find it on the Internet. I remember when I was little I watched these cartoons with my brother, it was great because we laughed and we shared the time together, this I miss him :(.

I always watch The Simpsons the weekend in the morning, while I have breakfast.

The role of cartoons in my life is that some gave me teaching and I think that the most appropriate way when one is small, is learn in this way because it is entertaining for children. Also many of the times I watched cartoons was with my older brother and we always remember this when we got together at home.

I do not remember seeing cartoons with my parents when I was little, I remember that I only watched with my brother. With my brother we watched Shin Chan, it's about the life of a boy of  5 year old naughty, clever and intelligent. He always makes his mom mad and has a very adorable little sister and naughty like him. Shin Chan sometimes repeats things that adults do unashamedly, even shows his buttocks and dances.

I like to talk with my friends about cartoons because you always laugh at the things that happen in it or comment on some parts. You can also recommend others that are good.

  

My post-title

I'm not sure what course to take because I still do not fall in love with this career, food engineering. I'm hoping to have career subjects to know if I really like and keep studying this. I hope to finish this career because it is very beautiful, it has many areas in which I can specialize, one of the ones I like most is the area of ​​Management, Quality and Food Safety because in the school I had a subject related to Quality. In this subject we did research work in companies, where we had to talk to the Quality Control Manager about the standards they had in the company and why they used them, it was very interesting and entertaining. For this reason I like this area and would like to learn more. Then after having my degree, I believe that I will work a time to save money and then I will do a post title in Management, Quality and Food Safety.

I would love to study in another country, meet other people, varied knowledge that relate to what I want to study, but, but, there is always a but, I think I will not have enough money to go, nor stay there, then the best and most reasonable I would study here in Chile.

Because I will be working, I would like to study part-time or study during the day and work in the afternoons.

My future work

I would like to work in the area of ​​research related to food. I imagine myself in a laboratory doing different types of experiments, ingeniously and questioning everything that happens around me and how to solve it. I do not like closed places but the laboratory is an exception. It would be great to travel a lot to different countries, meet them and interact with people who are interested in the same thing as me.
                           

As for the salary, it would be fine if the investigation were paid, but I think that is not the case everywhere, because the state does not finance it, so this would be a challenge, I would have to get together with other people to raise money and do the research. If it turns out, we'll have money spare.

I am studying food engineering, because of this, I imagine myself in this type of work, maybe in the future I will change my mind and do not want to work in the research area, but in quality management or being a teacher. I like this degree because it has several options in which one can specialize. 

I think maybe it will be exhausting, challenging and maybe I will not sleep thinking about the possible solutions, but I would like to have this experience, to realize that I can really help society with some food or prevent many.

Nanoparticles in food packaging

Exists is a great variety of nanomaterials in the market that include nanoparticles of titanium nitride, silver nanoparticles and nano-zinc oxide, nano-clay and nano-titanium dioxide that are present as functional additives for the food packaging industry.

These nanoparticles are of great importance in the area of ​​food and food engineering because they are perishable products and their contamination and degradation can occur at any stage of the food chain. Besides, the presence of infectious organisms in food can cause intoxication. So, it is very important to use a good quality packing material, which is safe, cost-effective and non-toxic.

Nanotechnology applied to diet is of great impact on human wellbeing because it ensures that we are consuming a safe food, which will not cause any damage to health and confidence in buying these products.

I did not know the nanoparticles until now, I knew that some packaging had properties that helped the quality of the food but not that they had nanoparticles.

I really like the subject of food packaging, which is why I chose nanomaterials that include nanoparticles that help improve the quality of food. I always think that better packaging could be made and I hope one day to create a very good one to help the environment.

My dog Doncan

A few years ago I used to have a dog called Doncan. Well, Doncan was my brother's dog because he took it home, my father and my brother gave him a name, his hair was brown with black; he was very playful and he destroyed my toys. When I was about 4 or 5 years old, I was afraid of Doncan because he could bite me. Besides, my mother didn't let me get close to Doncan, so I didn't have a dog-human friendship. I always remember that my mother passed my dummy to Doncan to stop me to using it, I felt very sad and angry because it was my favorite dummy, but since that day I didn't use a dummy again. Doncan died when I was 10 or 11 years old, we decided to bury him in the backyard in our house. After a while in the same place, different types of flowers grew. Doncan was the only pet in all my life.

I would like to have a dog if i lived alone, because in my home no one wants to have pets. I don't know if it is my favorite pet but it is the one that catches my attention, I see that my friend (Valentina) plays with their dogs, she has 4 dogs, she takes them to the park, she gives a lot of love to them, she even tell me that when she is sad, their dogs approaches and they asks her for affection. It would be nice to have a puppy.

My best holidays

Some years ago I went to the south of Chile with my cousins to visit my paternal family, I had never been with them for so long, it was the firt time, I had not shared this way and neither I did not know what their personalities.

My uncle took us in his car, I felt  very dizzy so we had to stop, this was terrible. But later I did not have the dizziness anymore and so we started to sing, to dance in the seating and laugh.

When we arrived in Talca, we went to the house of an aunt that I had never met in my life, she is nice and entertaining. Here we went to an amusement park, to the cemetery to visit a family member who I do not know who was. We stayed at his house for 3 days and then we went to my aunt Kelly. She lives in Temuco, we stayed for a week, , we went to a river, we visited the plot of my uncle, among other things.

I had a great time, but it was a tiring week because we went to bed late and we got up early to enjoy the day. I loved these vacations because I knew many new places, a family that I did not know or do not see for many years.

Next stop, Mexico

If I have the opportunity to visit a country, I would like to go to Mexico because has many places to visit and you can always be in different parts of the country. Also, I want learn of their culture, architecture and typical foods that is what I like most about visiting new places. This country has a varied weather, its national liquor is tequila. They celebrate death, that is praise the ancestors, giving them offerings that include images, food, drinks,among other things, like the movie that came out recently called "Coco".

I would like to know the Kukulkan Temple Pyramid that is very well know in Mexico, when one applauds in front of the pyramid of the temple, there is an “echo” similar to the sound quetzal, which is a bird that for the mayans was the messenger of the gods. Also, I would like to go to the beaches that are beautiful and eat a lot. 

I would like to go and live for a while to get to know the culture and visit all the places that this country offers and then I would go back to Chile.

My experience

I loved know that it was to create a blog, a couple of times I heard about write blog, but never investigated or gave me time to know what it was about. Then when we created the blog, I found it very interesting and entertaining, I did not know what image to put in the background because there are many that I love, all very cool.

When I'm doing the blog, it's very difficult for me to express myself, so it took me a while to write them. I do not have the ability to think and write at the same time in English, because I do not know many words so I have to find the words and continue writing, but with this I have learned new words and expressed myself in a better way, because some words I thought to write, are not exactly what should be used to say something in English, as well as a word in Spanish that means only one thing, in English that same word has several meanings depending on the context.

In the future I would like to write about the culture of other countries, their typical dances, their climate, but above all the food, because in each country different things are eaten, for example; there are countries where it is common to eat insects prepared in different ways. There are also countries that eat fried rats or other countries in which, eat these animals, is unforgivable, because they are adored and walk in the streets (as in Chile are the pigeons).

Sleep paralysis

Sleep paralysis is a sensation of being aware but being unable to move. It can occur in the moment of beginning to sleep or when waking up  and it is accompanied with feeling of anguish.It is of few duration.The person is fully conscious, with auditory and tactile ability, but can not move or speak, which can cause great anxiety.



Many times, sleep paralysis is associated with paranormal events or nightmares, in which the person is sold by fear, awakening terrified and frustrated by not being able to find an explanation to the facts.

In people with post-traumatic stress, anxiety and panic attacks, it is also very frequent the presence of sleep paralysis that, according to studies, the experience 10% of the world population. It affects people of all ages and is more common in adolescents and young adults.

The treatment depends on the patient's state of seriousness. The main treatment is to improve sleep habits, such as going to sleep at the same time every night, provide a comfortable sleep environment free of distractions, and avoid caffeine before bedtime.

At work, it affects the state of mind because the person does not sleep correctly due to fear of suffering this paralysis again. It can also scare the family and the people around this person.

General chemistry laboratory

At school, I was interested in a chemical laboratory because it showed us things related to the subject before choose, I liked everything what I saw and I was curious about what to do in a laboratory, so I postulated and now I have a degree in Chemical Laboratory, for this reason it is my Favorite subject.

Here at the university I do not like the laboratory so much because it is so big, I get used to it in my school's laboratory, which is small and few people. But the subject I like very much, 

I like to prepare the equipment we are going to use and know what happens in each experience, I also like it because you are constantly in move, you are always doing something and you are not sitting all the time.

Crystallization

In the subject we have theoretical and practical classes, we also have a manual explaining what we will do in the laboratory. Besides we must answer the questions before to go in the laboratory. In practice we develop controls according to what is seen in classes and in the laboratory.

This subject is very interesting because it relate the things that we live day to day and we do not know how it happen, it is also related to other careers of our faculty, so it is super important to understand it and put it into practice.

My favorite scientist

Louis Pasteur (1822-1895)

French chemist and bacteriologist, founder of microbiology and pioneer of modern medicine.Louis graduated as a professor in chemistry at the University of Strasbourg, giving chemistry classes there. He had 5 childrens and one of them died of typhoid fever, which motivated him to seek a cure for diseases.


 He contributed to the "Microbial Theory of Disease", which assumes that microorganisms are the cause of diseases, because they spoil the food. Pasteur concluded that they are also responsible for diseases in humans and animals, so antibiotics were created.


 One of the most famous processes, which he invented is the pasteurization, which involves submitting a food at a high temperature to destroy microorganisms without altering the composition and qualities of the food. This method is used today in food products to ensure the quality of these.Pasteur also invented vaccines against cholera, anthrax and rabies, among other diseases.

 I like it because he managed to improve the innocuousness of food, principally dairy products and at the same time allowed his life to be extended. I admire him because he did not stay with his arms crossed when his son had died for bacterias in his organism, on the contrary, this motivated him to give a solution with the pasteurization. 

My music style

As a child the music has been in my life, the music gives me joy, it gives me energy and motivation, especially in the morning. When I have to get up early.

When I listened to Los Cachureos I was excited and started dancing, jumping and singing, my parents also danced with me, it was very fun. Also for family gatherings it was custom to lay music and dance between cousins for example Axé, which at that time was in fashion.

I do not have preferences in the kind of music, they all have a moment to reproduce them for example, according to the mood, it can be Hard rock, Electropop, Romantics; in family meetings, it can be Salsa, Cumbia; in meetings with friends, it can be Reggaeton, Electronic, Reggae, etc.

The guitar, the drum kit, the piano are my favorite instruments; however, I play none of them. When I was 8 or 9 years old I made a drum kit with containers, after that, my parents had a headache.

I like the songs of Rudy Mancuso who is not only a singer but also an actor, producer, internet star, comedian and musician. His videos consist of sketches of musical comedies.

At age of 7, I liked the RBD band, which is a Mexican pop group created inside the telenovela Rebelde. Every day, when I arrived home from school, I saw them on TV, sang and danced, even had a billfold of them, but now I do not like.

I remember the song from the movie "El Rey Leon" it is called Hakuna matata, I always sang it.

Holiday at El Canelo beach

            This photograph was taken by my cousin when we went on a family vacation to Canelo beach in 2016. We were touring the place and photographing at all times, the trees, the flowers, the birds, the sky, even among us, the selfies that are inevitable when travel as a family and want to remember the great trip. Among all the photographs that were taken, this one is my favorite. I really like this photograph because it shows nature, little people at the bottom of the photograph, the love I have for my boyfriend and also because it reminds me of  best vacations. I also like this beach because it is small and it does not have so many waves, it is ideal for me that I do not know how to swim and I fear the sea. Also you can not only swim on the beach, you can do what I do, play cards, play dominoes, go for the place, buy things at craft fairs, eat corn with butter and many other things.

My Favourite Film

My favourite film is Alice in Wonderland, I like it because it has many imaginary scenes, that get my attention, besides I think that the technology used in the film is very advanced and has a lot of creativity, I would like to create an equal. I'm a fan of adventure and fantasy movies like this one.

I love all the characters, but exclusively the hatter, he is a little crazy and has an incredible mind, his personality is great.

I saw this movie when it premiered in the cinema, in 2010, when I was 12 years old, I went with my parents, it was very funny because everyone in the room we laughed and we were surprised in the scenes. My dad likes watching 3D movies, so we saw it in that format and it was very real because I felt inside the movie.

I recommend watching this movie because it is very entertaining, it has a lot of fantasy, funny characters that surprise, it also leaves you with a good teaching, that I will not tell you because that everyone discovers it.

The Smartphone

My favourite piece of technology is the Smartphone because I use always, also I can communicate with people and I like because it has many functions.
When I was children, my brother gave me his smartphone and it was nokia. Time later my dad gave me a more advanced in technology. I was  inheriting the smartphone from my family, however today I have a new smartphone of fabric.

I use the smatphone to talk with my friends, surfing in networks, search information about some topic, also to watch movies or videos that help me to study difficult subjects, also I can  take a picture.

If I did not have a Smartphone, I seach other forms for comunicated with my friends or family, I think that I would go back to the past, when letters were sent, when I was going to visit friends at home or I would take many books to study, I think I would have more real friends because there are not many social networks.

My experience in the learning.

When I was little, I dreamed of becoming architect, a dentist, fashion designer, because mi father made and I saw him working in this. When I was 15, I studied in a professional technical school, I had to choose a career and at that moment I did not know what to choose, I was very confused,until I decided on a chemical laboratory.

When I left school I did not think about going to university,  I wanted to do a pre-university and then go to university, but things were different. When I gave the PSU the score reached me for something related to chemistry, as Food Engineering. I had placed as option Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry and Food Engineering, that was the first option in the University of Chile. 

When I decided the career, I received the opinions of my parents, they helped me a lot to be now studying Food Engineering at the University of Chile.

At the beginning it was difficult because it cost me to adapt, but with the help of friends it was easier. 

I would like to work on new food research and give new properties, to help healthy eating.

A little about me

I'm Katherine Cordero R, is the only daughter of my parents and I have two brothers for part of mother and father. I'm from Santiago and I was born on December 15, 1998.  My father manufactures uniforms school and sells at them fair, I help in the summer to sell. My mother sells cakes and in the summer she sells ice cream. I only communicate with one of my brothers, he have two children and live nearby.

I like waching movies, eat and sleep. I have not best friends, now I can not trust. 

I studied in Centro Politecnico Particular de Ñuñoa and I have title of Tecnician in chemical laboratory. There I met the boyfriend, we have two years together and I´m in love. He live nearby and  always visit me. Both study Engineer in Food but in differents universities, we help each other.

In the university, I´m in theater, I like because know new people and I have more personality.

My family is not perfect but it is MY FAMILY and I do not change them for nothing in the world, they always support me at all times.
